USM and the CWS (College World Series)
June 12, 2009On Sunday night at Rosenblatt Stadium, a couple “firsts” happen. USM makes its debut at the College World Series in Omaha, NE. Another first is that a player that attended East Central High School in Hurley, MS will play in the CWS (at least I think its a first…). That player is J.R. Ballenger. Check out that link and you’ll see why he’s where he is.
Texas and USM have played once before and Texas, I hate to say this, killed USM by a score of 18-2 back in 1991. I hope for Southern’s sake that they can use the momentum that carried them through the Super Regional with Florida. Also, Ballenger was less than stellar in his outing against Florida, so he may feel that he has something to prove.
Texas can really hit, and they have outstanding pitching. I guess that’s why they are the #1 team in the country.
Many of you don’t know this, but Omaha, is my unintentional home away from home. I don’t have family there, but my company has a facility there (Blair, NE) that from an IT perspective I’ve been responsible. So I know the city and the area very well. Its a great mid-western town, and the steaks are the best I’ve ever had. Downtown Omaha has recently undergone a revitalization effort and it is very nice. If you get the chance, go. You won’t regret it.
So, if my wife didn’t already know…we’ll be in front of a TV Sunday night. I suggest you do the same.
